LEAGUE FINALS 2026
LEAGUE FINALS 2026
The Mayo Badminton Association held its Grade H League Finals on Wednesday, April 8th in Crossmolina GAA Hall, bringing the league campaign to a close in front of a strong attendance.
Clubs from across the county gathered for an enjoyable night of finals, with several closely contested ties and plenty of competitive badminton on show.
Ladies League Final
Westport v Crimlin
Westport secured the ladies league title following a hard fought contest against Crimlin.
The opening stages were evenly matched, with the sides level at 1-1 after the first game. Westport began to build momentum from there, taking the next two sets to move 3-1 in front.
Crimlin remained in contention by taking a set in the following game to leave it 4-2, but Westport responded well when it mattered most, seeing out the tie by taking the remaining sets, with the closing exchanges closely fought to seal a 6-2 victory.
Ladies Plate Final
Tourmakeady v Crossmolina
Tourmakeady came out on top with a 6-2 win over Crossmolina in the ladies plate final.
There was little between the teams early on, with the match finely balanced at 2-2. Tourmakeady then began to take a grip on proceedings, stringing together four successive sets to move clear.
Crossmolina continued to press, particularly in the final game, and pushed their opponents all the way, but Tourmakeady did enough in a tight finish to secure the result.
Men’s League Final
Crimlin v Castlebar
Crimlin produced a convincing display to see off Castlebar by 7-1 in the men’s league final.
The tie started evenly, with both sides claiming a set to leave it 1-1. Crimlin then moved through the gears, taking the next two sets to gain the upper hand.
A closely contested third game followed, with long rallies and narrow margins, but Crimlin again came out on top in both sets. They carried that form into the closing stages, adding the last two sets to complete the victory, although Castlebar continued to compete strongly throughout.
Men’s Plate Final
Ballina v Straide
The men’s plate final, which was rescheduled for Crimlin Community Centre, saw Ballina secure a 7-1 win over Straide.
The opening game was evenly contested, with the sides level at 1-1. Ballina then moved ahead in the second game, taking both sets, although each was closely fought, to lead 3-1.
They continued to build on that advantage in the third game, where again the margins were tight, but Ballina came out on top in both sets to move 5-1 in front and put the result beyond doubt.
Ballina maintained their level in the closing stages, taking the final two sets to complete the victory.
The finals night provided a fitting conclusion to this year’s Grade H League, with plenty of competitive action and a strong turnout on the night.
Thanks were extended to RedMac, Mayo Sports Partnership and all those involved in organising the event. The league will return again next year and the association welcomes interest from clubs looking to get involved.
